Welcome to Art Of Netsuke
A Netsuke (pronounce "net ski") is a miniature sculpture originating in 17th century Japan. Its main fuction was as a toggle to stop a purse from sliping off the sash of a Kimono. Japanese men wore kimonos until the late 19 century when they adopted western dress. The change in fashion meant netsuke carving died out. All our Netsukes come from China, where skilled artisans carry on the Netsuke carver's art.
